RMCLAS 2008 ANNUAL CONFERENCE
We are pleased to announce that the 55th Annual Conference of the Rocky Mountain Council for Latin American Studies will be held in Flagstaff, Arizona, Wednesday, April 9 - Saturday, April 12, 2008. The RMCLAS Annual Conference provides an opportunity for scholars and graduate students to share original research on Latin America.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The RMCLAS program committee is now accepting panel and paper proposals on general topics in Latin American Studies. We encourage presentations from all disciplines including but not limited to Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, Environmental Studies, Ethnomusicology, Film Studies, Gender Studies, History, Linguistics, Literature and Political Science.
We suggest that panels consist of three (3) presenters (one of whom may be the chair) and a commentator. Papers can be in English or Spanish. Please provide us with your name, affiliation, and electronic address, the paper title and a short abstract (not to exceed one-page). The deadline for program applications is JANUARY 15, 2008.

LODGING
The conference will take place at the Radisson Woodlands Hotel , located at 1175 West Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ 86001. For photos of the hotel and information on amenities, go to www.radisson.com.
The conference rate for single/double rooms is $99.00 + 10.338% state and local taxes. The conference rate for a parlor suite is $129.00 + 10.338% taxes.
Room Reservation Procedure:
To reserve rooms, contact the hotel directly at (928) 773-8888, or call the Radisson Central Reservations office at 1-800-333-3333. To get the conference rate, tell them that you will be attending RMCLAS.
The Radisson will save a block of rooms that will be available at the conference rate until Wednesday, March 19, 2008 , at which time all rooms not reserved will be released for general sale. Reservations received after this date will be accepted on a space and rate available basis. If the group rate is not available after this date, the prevailing rates will apply for any reservations confirmed after the cutoff date.
Reservation Guarantee:
For individual reservations, failure to cancel a guaranteed reservation by 4:00pm on the day of arrival will result in a charge of one night's room and tax applied to the credit card or forfeiture of the deposit.
Check In/Check Out:
The Hotel's check in time is after 4:00pm, and check out is by 12:00pm. Guests arriving prior to 4:00pm will be accommodated as rooms become available. The front desk can arrange to check baggage for those arriving early when rooms are not available.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Our Keynote speaker for RMCLAS 08 will be Guatemalan composer, conductor, musicologist Dieter Lehnhoff .
His music, ranging from contemporary classical to electroacústica, has been heard in Argentina, Austria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Germany, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the USA, the UK, and Venezuela.
As a scholar, Dr. Lehnhoff has edited three series of previously unpublished scores by Guatemalan, Portuguese and Spanish composers, and has written numerous articles for journals and reference books. He has also published six books, including Espada y pentagrama: la música polifónica en la Guatemala del siglo XVI (1986), Rafael Antonio Castellanos: vida y obra de un músico guatemalteco (1994), Música y músicos de Guatemala (1995), Huellas de la guerra en el arte musical (1999), and Creación musical en Guatemala (2005).

DANCE
On Friday night April 11 from 7:30 - 11:00 we will have a live band entertain us in the Radisson Ballroom. The band will start off with a set of Latin American folk music and will then play dance music ( salsa, son etc.).
